Detect

Your alarm has sensors attached to it which detect activity. There are many different types of detectors, such as:

Deter

The sound of the alarm deters burglars because it alerts them to the fact that the owners of the home are being made aware of their presence and can have them prosecuted. If your smoke alarm sounds you can then take action to stop the spread of the fire and extinguish it.
